Costa Rica - The Arenal Volcano

Today was my birthday. We drove to the Arenal Volcano. The Arenal Volcano is one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world. It is a stratovolcano. In 1968 there was a powerful eruption that destroyed the whole town of Tabacon. The Arenal Volcano has several craters but only one is active today.

On the drive to Arenal, we had to go around the Arenal lake.It was a hilly ride which made me feel carsick.I was tired that wen we finally got to the hotel, I just layed on the bed. The hotel was called Arenal Nayara (ar-EE-null nu-jar-ah). It was the most beautiful hotel I've ever seen. It was so beatiful that I didn't want to go see the volcano or go out at all. The room had a hammock, a jacuzzi and an outdoor private shower.

For my birthday we went to the hotels restaurant because we were too exhausted to go to any other place. I got a mini birthday cake, which was of my favorite chocolate flavor.

The next day we did Sky Walk, Sky trek, and Sky tram. First we did Sky Tram to a platform. It was a tram that was hanging on a cable.They cut down part of the jungle to make a path for the tram. It is about 2,500 feet high.Then my mom went back on Sky Tram and me and my dad did Sky Trek. Sky Trek is a bunch of zip lines 3,000 feet high.Because It's so high,it's called Sky Trek.I actually did that!I was hanging in the air, looking at the sky above and the deep valley below!!

After Sky Trek,we did sky walk which was walking in the forest/mountain and crossing a lot of high hanging bridges.So,that was fun to be in the middle of the forest, surrounded by just nature.We even drank clear water from a natural waterfall.It was so cool and refreshing,better than any bottled water.

After that we did a walk with a guide to the real Arenal volcano.We crossed forest and the lava river.The lava river had black soil because it was made by the flowing lava when the volcano erupted. We were able to go 500 meters away from the volcano!It looked so huge and we were able to see smoke coming out of one of the craters. That was awesome!!



Then at night we went to Tabacon Hot springs.These water in the hot springs come from the inside of the volcano which is extremely hot.The water was very warm but I couldn't enjoy it at night because the floor was rocky.After the hot bath, I was hungry and there was an Indian tandoori menu at their resturant!!. It felt so good to eat Indian food after one week.

The next day we had to leave for home.The days had passed in minutes.That sucked. So that was my vacation,which I will always remember!!
